Microsoft Remote Desktop Mac Console Session
Dec 07, 2007 I was surprised to see that the ability to make a remote desktop connection the the console session of a Windows Server 2003 host has been removed. I know this function is going away in Windows Server 2008, but it is still valid today. As a Windows admin, I use this every day. I was able to. The change taken for Windows Server 2008 is also. Click on Start, type Remote Desktop Connection. Open Remote Desktop Connection, click on options. Click on Experience Tab; put a check on font smoothing. If it is already checked then uncheck font smoothing.

-->When a user logs on to a Remote Desktop Services–enabled computer, a session is started for the user. Each session is identified by a unique session ID. Because each logon to a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client receives a separate session ID, the user-experience is similar to being logged on to multiple computers at the same time; for example, an office computer and a home computer.
Each remote desktop session is associated with an interactive window station. The only supported window station name for an interactive window station is 'WinSta0'; therefore each session is associated with its own 'WinSta0' window station. There are three standard desktops for each window station: the Winlogon desktop, the screen saver desktop, and the interactive desktop.
The user associated with the interactive window station for a session is known as the interactive user. On a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client there can be multiple interactive users in addition to the interactive user on the Remote Desktop Services console. To retrieve the identifier of the session currently attached to the console, use the WTSGetActiveConsoleSessionId function.
When a user logs off from a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client, the session that the client has on the Remote Desktop Session Host (RD Session Host) server (formerly known as a terminal server) is deleted and the window stations and desktops associated with that session are removed. However, because the Remote Desktop Services console session is never deleted, the window stations associated with the console session are not deleted. This affects how applications behave in a Remote Desktop Services environment when they are configured to run in the security context of the interactive user, also known as the 'RunAs Interactive User' object activation mode.

A note regarding missing keys: Many compact keyboards do not contain some keys. For example, many laptops do not have a dedicated BREAK key. However, they usually have keyboard shortcuts that replace dedicated keys. These key replacements are specified by the manufacturer of the keyboard, so you may need to look up key replacements in the documentation provided by your keyboard or laptop manufacturer.
There are two possible shortcut key combinations you can use on a remote desktop connection: the default Windows shortcut keys, or the shortcut keys originally designed for the remote desktop. You can set which shortcut keys you use on the local and remote machine through the Remote Desktop Connection client (ie, the dialog that appears when you click on the Remote Desktop Connection icon). From there, click Show Options (if you cannot see the options), and then click the Local Resources tab. In the Apply Windows key combinations drop-down, you have three options:

The default key combinations will work only on the remote desktop. You must use the alternate combinations on the local machine. Note that once you close down the Remote Desktop Connection, your local machine will once again use the default windows shortcuts.
Mar 19, 2020 If there is a problem with any program not responding, OS X provides the option to Force Quit that particular program rather than having to shut down the Mac. Go to the Apple menu & select Force Quit, then select the program that isn't responding & click the Force Quit button. If you can't open the Apple menu use Option+Command+esc.
Only when using the full screen
The default key combinations will work on whichever machine has the full desktop; functionally, this means that the default key combinations work for the local machine, unless you have the Remote Desktop Connection window in full-screen mode.
